|VDS Racing Engines, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, specializes in rebuilds and restorations of historic racing engines. We service BMW, Cosworth, Ilmor-Chevrolet Indy and other exotic engines for our high-end clients who are serious about their racing. VDS Racing Engines has an immediate need for an experienced engine assembler.|
The successful applicant must be experienced in precision assembly of OHC racing engines, own a basic set of hand tools, capable of performing a wide range of engine rebuild operations while following company processes with minimal supervision.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Disassembly, cleaning, dye penetrant, magnetic particle inspections and casting pressure tests.
Precision measuring using dial bore gauges, micrometers and other metrology equipment.
Clear and concise note taking skills and proficiency using Microsoft® Excel®.
Asist with Bill of Materials and parts documentation related to the engine build.
Ability to plan work and be forward thinking to mitigate production bottlenecks.
Perform engine builds following company procedures, bill of materials and build manuals.
Asist with sub-assembly of dry sump oil pumps, air induction and fuel injection systems.
Install engines in test cell and prepare for testing.
Asist in the testing of completed engines.
Post dynamometer test inspections and prepare completed engines for shipment.
|To be successful the in this position the following body of knowledge is required:|
General engine operating theory and principals.
Correct use of outside micrometers, depth micrometers, Etalon® bore gauges, surface plates, lapping plates, gauge pins, dial indicators, height gauges, feeler gauges.
Use of Sunnen® GR2000, GR6000 and AG300 gauging and CF1102, CF502 setting fixtures.
Piston ring and bearing preparation techniques using power ring grinder and deburring tools.
Camshaft installation, terminology, phasing, centerline and event cycle timing techniques; using dial indicators, engine specific fixtures, and degree wheel.
Use of torque wrenches, fastener lubrication and sealants.
The senior engine builder is expected to contribute to fostering a mature, friendly, cooperative and productive work environment. Must be willing to maintain a clean and organized work environment, including: the daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and organizing operations of the shop.
